Strong’s Exhaustive Concordance of the Bible
David composed this Psalm glorifying the Lord after placing the ark of the covenant in its tabernacle in Jerusalem. Glory—brag on—God’s name! Let those who have their focus on the Lord purposefully, lavishly, and extravagantly celebrate Him. If we desire to be strong, then we must seek, study, and find out what brings the Lord jubilation. What gives Him pleasure? If we are God’s children and His most prized possession—His precious jewels—and if giving Him pleasure is our whole purpose in life, then His purpose will be to make us strong. Knowing that God is sovereignly powerful should surely give us the confidence that He can extend that strength to us, His beloved children. If the heavens and the inhabitants thereof are jubilant over what God has done and is doing—if the very land is having a party—how much more should we who are living on the earth take part in the same? Let the sea exclaim and the fields raise exultations of the Lord. Then the trees of the earth make melody where they are planted. How much more should we make a joyful noise to the cadence of His praise?
When I was feeling blue and inadequate because of my physical limitations, the Lord made it clear to me that as far as He is concerned, the most accomplished athlete is no more favored than I am. We are on equal ground as far as the Lord’s ability to glorify Himself though us. God gives me (Susan) the strength to choose to live joyfully for Him in the midst of my multitude of thorns (aka physical challenges). I am living proof of the reality of God’s enablement to infuse joy into the ones He loves. God enables me (Susie) to overcome my thorn (clinical depression) in order to serve Him joyfully and share His joy with others. He gave me an incredible gift by bringing Susan into my life to inspire me to rise above the circumstances and rejoice in His goodness. As Paul wrote, God’s strength is made perfect in humanity’s weaknesses:
So to keep me from becoming conceited, I was given a thorn in my flesh, a messenger of Satan, to torment me. Three times I pleaded with the Lord to take it away from me. But He said to me, “My grace is sufficient for you, for My power is perfected in weakness.” Therefore I will boast all the more gladly in my weaknesses, so that the power of Christ may rest on me. That is why, for the sake of Christ, I delight in weaknesses, in insults, in hardships, in persecutions, in difficulties. For when I am weak, then I am strong.
2 Corinthians 12:7b-10
It is His desire to perfect His strength and place His joy in all those who know Him intimately. God is giving you an invitation to the party celebrating His goodness. How will you R.S.V.P?
Father, fill us with joy overflowing so that the earth cannot outdo us in celebrating You!
