WEEK 9 – DAY 1

THE WAY-MAKER

Trust in Adonai with all your heart; do not rely on your own understanding. In all your ways acknowledge him; then he will level your paths. Proverbs 3:5-6 (CJB)

Proverbs 3:6 is usually translated either “he will direct your paths” or “he will make your paths straight.” We liked this Complete Jewish Bible translation because the word “level” gave us a new perspective. Israel has a lot of rocky, hilly terrain. Someone would go before an important person and make the path more level. Think of John the Baptist going before the Lord to prepare the way (Isaiah 40:3, John 1:23). In these verses from Proverbs, the Lord says that when we rely on Him, He levels, straightens, makes our pathway smooth and clear. He makes clear to us which paths to take and enables us to navigate them. That does not mean life is easy but that it is doable in His strength. The impossible is made possible when we are following the Way-Maker. Remember that He uses His word to light the path—”Thy word is a lamp unto my feet, and a light unto my path” (Psalm 119:105).

Lord God, as we read and meditate on Your word daily, show us the next step in the path You have chosen for us. Steer us around pitfalls and stumbling stones that we may continue following Jesus more closely.
