WEEK 7 – DAY 3

FLASHLIGHT

Thy word is a lamp unto my feet, and a light unto my path. Psalm 119:105

Have you ever tried to find your way on a path at night or in a heavily wooded area that does not allow much sunlight through? If so, you know the value of a good flashlight. God’s word is the flashlight aimed at the path in front of us. We may not always be able to see clearly a long distance ahead, but each step is illumined to keep us from stumbling over rocks or falling into a ditch. Failing to read and study the Bible is like having a fully charged flashlight in your hand on a dark night and failing to turn it on! Read the Bible. Allow the Holy Spirit to illumine it, light it up for you. Then faithfully follow step by step, decision by decision, what God shows you. “Trust in the Lord with all thine heart and lean not unto thine own understanding. In all thy ways acknowledge him, and he shall direct thy paths,” (Proverbs 3:5-6).

For me, Susan, the journey has involved several steps not knowing for sure the long-term destination. The first step was to follow the Spirit’s leading by attending Oral Roberts University. Then, when it seemed my major had been mislabeled, I was prompted by the Lord to pursue that major instead of the one I had intended. Next, He led me and enabled me to pursue graduate school at ORU. In time, the Lord convinced me to be ordained into the ministry. Five years later, God sent me a “tater” (short for facilitator), Susie Hale, and we began the work of building Precious Jewels Ministries which God had laid on my heart to do years earlier. In November 2016, PJM became a 501(c)(3) non-profit corporation in the state of Texas. The long-range plan was not revealed all at once. However, God’s word led me step by step, lighting my way.

Father, as we stand on the verge of taking the next step You have shown us and going out to speak our testimonies and Your message, please continue to show us each step of the way as we daily read Your word. Let the Bible be our flashlight!
