WEEK 51 – DAY 5

HUMBLENESS HONORED

Likewise, ye younger, submit yourselves unto the elder. Yea, all of you be subject one to another, and be clothed with humility: for God resisteth the proud, and giveth grace to the humble. Humble yourselves therefore under the mighty hand of God, that he may exalt you in due time. . .1 Peter 5:5-6

The Apostle Paul as well as Peter taught that believers should submit to one another (Ephesians 5:21). Rather than setting ourselves up as better than others, we are to “be clothed with humility.” Does this infer that we are to put ourselves down and demean our gifts? NO! We are just to realize that all of our brothers and sisters are gifted in unique ways, and we are not above anyone else. We need to use our gifts and talents to the glory of God and for the benefit of His body, the church, while not drawing attention to ourselves. When we do this, God will continue to influence our hearts so that others see Jesus in us. There will be no need to strive to be seen as some sort of super saint. The love of Jesus flowing through us to others is a greater testimony than putting on a “perfect” demeanor. We must remember that we are all sinners (Romans 3:23), and it is only the grace of God that raises us up to dwell with Him (Ephesians 2:8-9).

Father, allow us to be inconspicuous even when we are on the platform in front of the crowd. Let Your light so shine through each of us that praise is given to You (Matthew 5:16). Thank You for Your transforming grace.
