Week 41 – Day 4
HEAVENLY POTTING SOIL
As ye have therefore received Christ Jesus the Lord, so walk ye in him: Rooted and built up in him, and stablished in the faith, as ye have been taught, abounding therein with thanksgiving.
Colossians 2:6-7
I enjoy growing flowers in my garden, and over the years I’ve learned the importance of the right kind of soil in producing showier flowers. I get rid of weeds, loosen the dirt, work in peat moss and topsoil, and for some types of flowers add bone meal or plant food. After hours of preparation, I’m ready to plant my annuals. In order for those flowers to root into the new soil, I keep them properly watered and place them in the proper amount of sunshine.
We are planted into the Lord as soon as we surrender our lives to Him. However, for our roots to grow strong in Him, we need to feed and water them and stay in the light. We feed and water our relationship with Christ by reading His word and listening to godly teachers. We stay in the light by cultivating relationships with other believers and avoiding those situations that plunge us into temptation’s darkness. “But if we walk in the light, as he is in the light, we have fellowship one with another, and the blood of Jesus Christ his Son cleanseth us from all sin (I John 1:7).
When my plants are planted in good soil, fed, watered, and in proper lighting, they produce magnificent flowers. Flowers seem to glorify God with their whole being. When we are rooted and grounded in our faith, we do the same thing. The Lord produces a life in us that is overflowing with thankfulness. Giving thanks to the Lord is the equivalent of a rose in full bloom—fantastically beautiful whether it is a large rose or one a miniature rose (like Susan LOL). We can be God’s garden of gorgeous flowers if we cultivate our relationship with Jesus.
Father, help our roots grow stronger each day and allow our lives to bloom so that others may see Your glory and glorify You also.
