WEEK 40 – DAY 2

GIVE AND TRUST GOD TO SUPPLY

But I have all, and abound: I am full, having received of Epaphroditus the things which were sent from you, an odour of a sweet smell, a sacrifice acceptable, well-pleasing to God. But my God shall supply all your need according to his riches in glory by Christ Jesus. Philippians 4:18-19

My mother told me something that illustrates these verses well. My parents listened to a missionary speak at their church. Daddy told Mother he believed the Lord would have him give the entire paycheck he had just cashed to further this missionary’s work. She asked him how God was going to feed the children but encouraged him to follow the Spirit’s leading. Daddy put the money in the offering plate. On the way home, they decided to drop in on my dad’s parents. A side of beef had just been delivered to Grandma and Grandpa, and they shared generously with our family. They also had fresh vegetables from their garden packed up and ready to give us in order to make room for the beef in their freezer. God provided more food that week than Daddy’s paycheck would have bought us.  Susan and I both give at least a tithe to our church and sometimes feel led to give to other ministries such as Voice of the Martyrs or James Robison’s water well fund. God continues to amply supply what we need. We were in the process of moving to a more accessible apartment but needed to pay to get out of our lease. The free two months promotion at the new apartment provided the money for the 60 days’ notice we have to give at the inadequate place. The re-let fee was taken care of by a generous donation from parents of one of Susie’s former students and the sale of our extra vehicle. God is so good! The truth about giving to the Lord’s work is that the reward is not always monetary. It may be that specific needs are met in unusual ways, but He always provides!

Father, help us to give faithfully of our lives as well as our money. Thank You for providing for our every need and allowing us the joy of providing for others. Help us to constantly remember that all we call “ours” is actually Yours, and we are Your stewards.
