WEEK 36 – DAY 4
LIVING IN HUMILITY
Who, being in the form of God, thought it not robbery to be equal with God: But made himself of no reputation, and took upon him the form of a servant, and was made in the likeness of men: And being found in fashion as a man, he humbled himself, and became obedient unto death, even the death of the cross. Philippians 2:6-8
Jesus was a member of the Trinity, the God-head, equal with God the Father. Yet He was willing to bring Himself down to our level and become a man. The incarnation of the Son of God is fascinating to us. The fact that our Lord would confine Himself to the body of an infant and suffer all the trials of growing up obedient to parents He had created amazes and confounds us each time we think of it. Christ took on the limited form of a human body and obeyed the Father to the point of suffering the most painful and humiliating death of those times in order that we might come to know Him and have salvation. Considering the humility that Christ demonstrated in his incarnation, how then shall we live? Matthew tell us what Jesus told the disciples on this subject, “But Jesus called them unto him, and said, Ye know that the princes of the Gentiles exercise dominion over them, and they that are great exercise authority upon them. But it shall not be so among you: but whosoever will be great among you, let him be your minister; And whosoever will be chief among you, let him be your servant: Even as the Son of man came not to be ministered unto, but to minister, and to give his life a ransom for many” (Matthew 20:25-28).
Father, help us to lay aside our idea of what our lives should be and follow wherever You lead. When called upon to lead in Your work, help us to remember it is a call to be servants.
