WEEK 11 – DAY 2

GOD MAKES THE INACCESSIBLE, ACCESSIBLE

Call unto me, and I will answer thee, and show thee great and mighty things, which thou knowest not. Jeremiah 33:3

If the Lord had a cell phone, it would never be on “silent” or “do not disturb.” When we cry out to God, we can be confident that He will answer. His answer may not be immediate or exactly the way we imagine He would respond, but He will always give exactly what we need. God’s way is always the best even if we don’t understand it as “good” or “right” in the moment. His desire is to reveal “great and mighty things.” Mighty can be translated “unsearchable” or “inaccessible”. God will show us things we could never imagine on our own. His plans for us are far better than anything we could dream up ourselves. Case in point: Susan and I just had a need (as we were writing this devotional) for someone to come over and help us unload some high cabinets before a kitchen renovation. We imagined one of our ministers or other church members answering this need (which would have been great) when we posted it on Facebook. Instead, God chose to bless us with seeing one of my former students who I taught when she was in first and second grades. She survived lung transplant surgery that was necessary to overcome her battle with cystic fibrosis, and the Lord has restored her to health. This is a far more exciting answer to prayer than I would have expected. God is great and gracious in the small things as well as the large. He is always able to “to do exceeding abundantly above all that we ask or think, according to the power that worketh in us . . .” (Ephesians 3:20). When we cry out to God for help, for assurance, for guidance, He will answer.

Thank You, Father, for continually, consistently exceeding our expectations when we come to You in prayer. Help us to remember this truth whenever we are tempted to lose hope or give in to anxiety.
