SPRINGS OF JOY
Singers and pipers will proclaim, “All my springs of joy are in You.”
Psalm 87:7 (BSB)
87:1–7 This psalm describes the Lord’s love for Jerusalem and exalts this city as the religious center of the world in the coming messianic kingdom (cf. Ps. 48). Though the nations of the world (even including some of Israel’s former enemies) will worship the Lord then, Israel will still be the favored nation (cf. Is. 2:2–4; 19:23–25; 45:22–25; 56:6–8; Zech. 8:20–23; 14:16–19).
87:7 “All my springs are in you.” “Springs” is a metaphor for the source of joyful blessings. Eternal salvation, including the death and resurrection of Christ, is rooted in Jerusalem. The prophets also tell of a literal fountain flowing from the temple in Jerusalem which will water the surrounding land (cf. Joel 3:18; Ezek. 47:1–12).
MacArthur Study Bible
We are blessed because we are the children of God. We have placed our trust in the death, burial, and resurrection of Jesus who purchased our salvation on the cross in Jerusalem. Every grace-filled gift—blessing—begins and ends with God.
Every good and perfect gift is from above, coming down from the Father of the heavenly lights, with whom there is no change or shifting shadow.
James 1:17
I am thankful the Lord blessed me with the ability to speak. After experiencing double amputation above the knee and surviving a “Code Blue” being called on my behalf, I am thankful to be alive! I am blessed to have a facilitator—“Tater” for short—my roommate, Susie, who has become my bonus sister and partner in ministry. I am thankful for loving grandparents who took me to church as a child. I am thankful for a mom who takes pleasure in me. We are blessed that the Lord enabled us to become a non-profit corporation, 501(C)3 and to develop our website, www.preciousjewelsministries.com. I am blessed by chicken fried steak with gravy and chocolate, but not together! EVERY good thing in our lives is God’s gift. In light of this awesome truth that all blessings flow like a spring from God, we need to express paramount gratitude and thanksgiving to the Lord.
Make your own list of things for which you are grateful to God——the blessings flowing from your Father. Lift up a prayer of thanksgiving, acknowledging that your Father has showered you with extravagant love.
Father, we thank You that blessings continue to flow, to spring up in our lives as we follow You. Thank You that each new day is a gift from You that holds numerous blessings if we open our eyes to see them.
