MESSIAH: THE STAR IS BORN

Your descendants will be like the dust of the earth, and you will spread out to the west and east and north and south. All the families of the earth will be blessed through you and your offspring.

Genesis 28:14 (BSB) (God speaking to Jacob)

I see him, but not now; I behold him, but not near. A star will come forth from Jacob, and a scepter will arise from Israel . . .A ruler will come from Jacob.

Numbers 24:17a, 19a (BSB)

Abraham was the father of Isaac, Isaac the father of Jacob . . .

Matthew 1:2a (BSB)

“I, Jesus, have sent My angel to give you this testimony for the churches. I am the Root and the Offspring of David, the bright Morning Star.”

Revelation 22:16

Again, we see God’s attention to detail. Jacob had a twin named Esau who should have received the birthright to be Isaac’s heir, but through deception, Jacob was the one Isaac blessed which led to his being in the lineage of Jesus. The Old Testament writers under the influence of the Holy Spirit prophesied that a Star would be born as one of Jacob’s descendants. This Star is Jesus who is brighter than any star in the heavens and will not fade like the so-called stars in Hollywood. This Star shines brightly throughout the ages and will be the Brightness that lights up the New Jerusalem: “There will be no more night in the city, and they will have no need for the light of a lamp or of the sun. For the Lord God will shine on them,” (Revelation 22:5a).  This brightness, this radiance may have been the “star” the wisemen followed as some scholars believe that star to be the Shekinah glory of God!

Jesus is the Light, but He desires that light to shine through each believer. Jesus said, “I am the light of the world. Whoever follows Me will never walk in the darkness, but will have the light of life” (John 8:12) and, “You are the light of the world. A city on a hill cannot be hidden” (Matthew 5:14). Have you been trying to hide your light? Be bold in sharing the Gospel to people who are walking in darkness. Be a beacon of light and shine for Jesus!

Father, thank You for placing the light of life within us. Help us to shine brightly for You!
