DOES THE LORD MAKE HIS HOME WITH YOU?

Whoever has My commandments and keeps them is the one who lovesG25 Me. The one who lovesG25 Me will be lovedG25 by My Father, and I will love him and reveal Myself to him.” . . .

Jesus replied, “If anyone lovesG25 Me, he will keep My word.  My Father will loveG25 him, and We will come to him and make Our home with him. Whoever does not loveG25 Me does not keep My words. The word that you hear is not My own, but it is from the Father who sent Me.

John 14:21, 23-24

To know Jesus is to believe He is the Son of God who is the only way to salvation (John 14:6). When we love Jesus, we get to know Him more deeply by reading His word which should lead us to obey what we have read in His word. Jesus said He and the Father would love those who believe and keep God’s word and would take up residence—make their dwelling place—within him or her. They will abide in the believer, and the believer will abide in them. We are not sure the disciples understood this concept of the Lord dwelling with them even after He was no longer on earth in bodily form. However, this truth would become a pillar of their faith after the resurrection and ascension of Jesus as seen in the book of Acts. In Acts chapter two, the Holy Spirit came to dwell in the believers gathered in an upper room to pray. Since that time, the Holy Spirit has entered each new believer in Jesus. The Lord being present in our lives is what carries us through each day. The converse is also true: when you reject Jesus, you are rejecting God the Father. God sent Jesus as His representative to enlighten humanity about the Father’s attributes by seeing Him in living color, flesh-and-blood. Therefore, they could relate to and understand Him as a man. Jesus said many times that He spoke only that which the Father told Him. Therefore, to discard Jesus’s words is to discard God’s words. To disobey Jesus is to disobey Father God.

Are you keenly aware of the Holy Spirit’s presence in your life? If not, check two things:

  1. Have you trusted Jesus alone for salvation, believing Him to be the Son of God who died on the cross for your sins and was raised from the dead to reign with the Father? If not, you must start at this point. The pastor of a Bible believing church would be happy to help you solidify your relationship with the Lord. 2. Are you studying God’s word, the Bible, and obeying what the Lord shows you as you read? “Draw near to God, and He will draw near to you. Cleanse your hands, you sinners, and purify your hearts, you double-minded” (James 4:8). We draw near when we read and obey His word.

Father, help us to be in Your word daily and obey whatever You show us there. Forgive us when we fall short, cleanse us, and set us back on the path You have chosen for us.
